We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Jasmin Dobson, Assistant Neuropsychologist, has joined the Sage Psychologie team.
Jasmin graduated with a First Class BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Neuropsychology from Bangor University. Her interest in how the brain works and its impact on everyday life is evident in her dissertation choice, when she explored whether changes in the brain could be induced via the use of an auditory training programme, with the aim of improving older people’s hearing, and reducing reliance on hearing aids. Alongside her role with us at Sage, Jasmin is also working two days a week as an Intern at Bangor. This fascinating work involves assisting in PhD research looking at theory of mind and the use of social robots with children in schools.
She has an infectious enthusiasm for life and for her work that has a positive impact on those around her. Since the age of twelve she has organised her own running and cycling events to raise money for various charities, e.g. Together for Short Lives, Hand in Hand for Syria, RSPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Finding Furever Homes. She has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for the mental health charity, MIND.
During her time at University she was valued by the Course Team as a Coach to her peers to help them improve their public speaking skills, and as a peer guide to her fellow students. She was Captain of Bangor University Athletics Club, taking responsibility for the members, and moving the club forward via different events and challenges. She has also spent four years working in Customer Relations at IKEA… so we are not allowed to make any flat pack jokes!
Although Jasmin is keen to gain experience working with adults, and has volunteered with Headway for some time, she also has over three years experience working as a volunteer with children who have special needs. We welcome her enjoyment of working with these youngsters, and her penchant for being creative and keeping them positively engaged.
Jasmin is also taking forward the development of our new service involving the use of Virtual Reality as an evidence-based tool for dealing with anxiety and phobias, in the context of both mental health and brain injury.
We aim to support her as she expands her nascent knowledge of clinical formulation, CBT, and mindfulness, and how these can be applied practically in therapeutic settings.
Jasmin is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. Under supervision she offers the following services:
- Assisting the Clinical Neuropsychologist with both adult and paediatric clients
- Providing therapeutic support to families
- Administration and scoring of questionnaires and cognitive tests, and summarising results
- Writing reports
- Facilitating support groups for clients
- Attending and participating in MDTs as required
- Virtual Reality treatment for anxiety and phobias (upcoming)
Jasmin shares the passion that the rest of the Sage Psychologie team have for helping others, and we are delighted that she has joined us.
And even more so, because she shares our love of dogs, and all things pets!
